Featured events, summer camps, school field trips and fishing and birding programs resume starting this week
The 快播视频 announced today that the Northerly Island Visitor Center, 1521 S. Linn White Dr., is now open to the public after the completion of a major restoration project to repair damage resulting from a fire in November 2023.
The historic building sits within the confines of the 119.7-acre park situated along the Lake Michigan shoreline on Chicago鈥檚 beautiful Museum Campus, and was the former terminal structure for the now defunct Meigs Field Airport.
As part of the renovation, the lobby was fully restored, and large glass windows replaced and the bird-strike prevention film was re-applied. In line with the 快播视频鈥檚 sustainability efforts to make our buildings more energy efficient, lighting was replaced with environmentally friendly LEDs.
The 快播视频 Department of Cultural and Natural Resources and Department of Facility Management have been working collaboratively to bring back this great resource to the community.
鈥淚 am extremely grateful to the public for their patience during the restoration process and to our team for helping to reactivate this community asset that offers more access to nature-based programming opportunities,鈥 said General Superintendent and CEO, Carlos Ramirez-Rosa.
The Visitor Center will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and remain closed on weekends.
In addition to public access to restrooms, and a place to rest, relax or warm-up/cool-down when enjoying a day at the public park, the Center offers access to fishing, camping and birding programming year-round in the Park鈥檚 Natural Area, nature play space, and nearby access to the Lake.
