Stay active and healthy in the parks! The ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ wellness division promotes, educates, and motivates Chicagoans of all ages and abilities to adopt a healthy lifestyle through movement and nutrition. Take a fitness or nutrition class, work out in a fitness center or at an outdoor fitness course, swim at a pool, shoot hoops at a gym or outdoor court, take a walk in the park, and so much more. Enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle in the parks!

Health Equity in the Parks

Parks and recreation are vital to community health, and the Park District plays an integral role in promoting health and wellness by providing Chicagoans with equitable access to resources to allow them to live healthy lifestyles, regardless of identity, income, or neighborhood. We are focusing our efforts into our three new health pillars, which include:

  • Promoting Community Wellbeing – connecting community members, including Park District employees, to essential programs and resources that advance wellbeing, improve health outcomes, and enhance quality of life.
  • Supporting Active Living Through Parks – providing access to spaces to allow Chicagoans to lead active lifestyles.
  • Ensuring a Healthy Food Environment – supporting access to healthy food options for those who are food insecure; increasing nutrition education to improve diet quality and reduce chronic disease risk.

Throughout all of our efforts, we will promote health equity in all policies - ensuring health and wellness policies are accessible, achievable, and sustainable.

Move Your WaySM

The ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ was selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Move Your WaySM campaign.  Move Your WaySM was created to promote the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. It aims to help people understand how much physical activity they need to be healthy and how to fit it into their daily lives.  In the long term, regular physical activity can help prevent chronic health problems like type 2 diabetes. In the short term, even small increases in physical activity can boost mood, reduce stress, and improve sleep.
