History
The 快播视频 amended a lease agreement with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago in 2002 and 2006 to lease more parkland along the Chicago River. The site was located north of Devon and south of Peterson, the new park is located on both the east and west side of the river. Stone Park is a 10.6-acre linear passive green space located in both the North Park and West Ridge Community Areas.
In 2017, the park was named to honor Bernard Stone who served as alderman of the 50th ward for 38 years, he was elected in 1973 and served until 2011, making him the 2nd longest serving alderman in the history of Chicago. Alderman Stone made local headlines for the installation of 鈥淏ernies Wall,鈥 a 3 block long 2.5 foot steel guardrail in the middle of Howard Street, creating a traffic barrier between Chicago and the township of Evanston. Stone was a very outspoken and colorful individual who once broke out into song at City Council meeting in regards to an ordinance to ban smoking in most public buildings. Mayor Rahm Emmanuel was quoted as saying: 鈥淔rom serving our country in World War II to serving our city for nearly 40 years on the City Council, Bernie Stone leaves behind a profound legacy. . . As the second-longest serving alderman in the history of Chicago, he was fiercely loyal to his constituents and there was nothing he loved more than fighting to make life better for the residents he represented.鈥
